OATI - The Quite Giant

Filed under: Natural Gas, Software, Energy, Commodities, Risk ManagementPatrick Reames | May 14, 2007 @ 8:39 am (Views: 668)

Open Access Technology International, aka OATI, is a company that has become one of the largest providers of energy trading and power scheduling solutions in the world, yet, unless you use their software, you may have never heard of them. They’re certainly not one of the most boisterous companies around, in fact, you could call them downright demur. But, despite their lack of a loud voice in the market, they have created solutions that have captured amazing market share.

Consider these numbers…98% of all e-tagging, more than 60% of transmission scheduling, more than 50% of OASIS. On top of that, their relatively young marketing products have captrued more than 50 clients.

I had a chance to meet with the company’s leadership on a recent trip to Minneapolis. Their team could easily form their own university. I have never seen so many PHD’s in one place since I left college.

This is not a flashy company. It is a company that has been focused on development of superior technology that meets the needs of the energy trading and transmission markets, and based upon their market share numbers, they have succeeded.
